Coffee production has played a key role in Costa Rica's history and continues to be important to the country's economy.  The largest growing areas are in the provinces of San José, Alajuela, Heredia, Puntarenas, and Cartago.  The coffee is exported to other countries in the world and is also exported to cities in Costa Rica.

Although Costa Rica produces a variety of blends, those that reach our specialty coffee menu are usually Strictly Hard Bean (SHB) coffees, which means they are grown at elevations of around 3,900 feet or more. When grown at high altitudes the growth of the coffee trees will slow down tremendously, the nights are often cooler; this causes the cherries to mature at a much slower pace.

Unlike many coffees of the world, Costa Rica’s are generally identified either by the farm or estate on which they were grown. Costa Rica has dedicated farmers who take pride in ensuring that their plantations only extrude high-quality produce.  Costa Rican coffees serve as an excellent bright single origin coffee and will definitely add life to individual blends. An added bonus, these slower grown; dense, high altitude beans can take the heat of a French roast.

All of the coffee from Costa Rica is Arabica Beans. It is illegal to grown any other coffees. This produces a gourmet coffee from the selected Arabica coffee beans.

The coffee club has these available in a single order or monthly subscription.
