This Heirloom Bourbon coffee varietal is grown in the Minas Gerias district of Brazil

Brazil Bourbon Santos:

The Brazil Bourbon Santos bean was named after the 18th century Island in which it was cultivated – ‘Bourbon’ and the port from which it is mainly shipped out of Brazil – ‘Porto de Santos’. Although the island has been renamed to Reunion, the coffee continues to be called Bourbon.

Santos coffee is produced from the beans of the Arabica trees. These trees are located in the lush Savannah highlands between the Pardo and Grande rivers. The Arabica beans are round and curly in the first three to four years that the tree produces fruit. These beans are dry-processed to produce the delicious Brazilian Bourbon Santos. The character of each of these coffees differs due to the local growing conditions. Most Brazilian coffee is sun dried for economic reasons (due to the large quantity of coffee Brazil produces). However, the Brazil Bourbon Santos coffee is given more careful treatment. This probably accounts for its wonderful round body and blooming sweetness. This bean is popular with the Italians for their espresso coffee blends.

Ricardo and Gisele Resende grow this heirloom Bourbon coffee varietal the Minas Gerias district of Brazil. They are the husband-and-wife owners of Frazenda Nossa Senhora de Fatima. They produce a medium-roast bean with a smooth body and hints of citrus and chocolate. Gisele and Ricardo built housing and a school on their fazenda for the workers. They also replanted native trees and earned their organic certification with seed-to-harvest sustainable practices.
